Weight loss programs such as eating nothing but protein, cutting out white flour and sweets can produce dramatic results in a fairly short time â but can have serious health consequences in the long term. </p>
<p>A âtraditionalâ weight loss program that involves simply cutting back on food intake can be counterproductive as well.  This has to do with the nature of fat build-up in the first place.  Our earliest direct ancestors evolved on the hot, dry savannahs of eastern Africa â a place where food supplies were far from certain.  In times of famine, the bodily metabolism slowed down in order to conserve energy; it was during these times that the bodies of these early hominids would survive on fat stored during times of plenty. </p>
<p>Although society, technology and culture have changed greatly in the past 6-7 million years, biology has not; when you deny yourself food, your body perceives it as a famine, whether you are in the lush agricultural regions of California or the dry plains of Kenya.  Therefore, the metabolism slows down, and those extra pounds refuse to come off, preventing quick weight loss. </p>
<p>Recent research indicates a strong connection between the use of âhigh-fructose corn syrup,â a largely artificial sweetener added to nearly everything from cola drinks to commercial breakfast âcerealsâ and snack foods, and the current epidemic of obesity.  The âfatteningâ of America began in earnest around 1980 â the same time that big corporations began using high-fructose corn syrup in virtually all commercial food products.  As the use of this substance has increased, so has the weight of the average American.  Is this a coincidence?</p>
<p>While there are no sure ways to accomplish fast weight loss in a healthy manner, there are steps one can take in order to be more successful in a weight loss program.  One is to read the ingredients of prepared foods.  If it contains high-fructose corn syrup, and/or has ingredients that sound like they came from a chemistry lab, avoid it.  </p>
<p>Better yet, join the âslow-foodâ movement.  The closer a food is to its natural state, the more nutrient-dense it will be â and the less of it you will need in order to feel satisfied while maintaining good health. </p>
<p>Any exercise program used in conjunction with a weight-loss program should include strength training as well.  Muscle tissue tends to burn more calories, even when one is at rest. </p>
<p>You may not achieve quick weight loss, but your weight loss program will have better long-term results.  <br/><br/></p>

The sad truth is, so few individuals know this, that they think the have to buy their healthy weight loss programs.  Expensive weight loss plans [Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, Nutrisystems, etc. ] all claim to have the ideal healthy weight loss programs.  These expensive programs for weight loss actually do have the potential to work- IF you follow them and use them to help you create that all critical daily calorie deficit.  However, most people that buy commercial weight loss programs- even ones that are considered healthy- end up gaining back more weight than they lost.<br />
So why commercial &#8220;healthy weight loss programs&#8221; can&#8217;t help you permanently keep weight off? Simple: The answer is quite interesting.  It&#8217;s because if you buy a diet to help you, you make it impossible to know how to keep weight off once you stop using the program.  Meaning, when you take away the tool that you bought- that&#8217;s helping you create the calorie deficit- you take away the calorie deficit.  Leaning how to permanently lose weight is like leaning how to swim.  If you never take off your life jacket, you&#8217;ll never totally know how to swim by yourself. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I&#8217;ll admit it.  One of the hardest things I have ever done in my life is trying to lose weight.  Not because of lack of motivation or commitment, no, I had PLENTY of that.  The problem for me was deciding on the &#8216;how&#8217;.  It seems as if everywhere you look, there is a new diet out on the market that promises incredible way to help you lose weight and have a perfect body.  The before and after weight lose all look fantastic and are enough to sway just about anyone who is desperate to achieve the body they desire.  <br/><br/>The choices seem endless and all too often, at least for me anyways, I ended up making the wrong choice.  So, how does someone know what is the RIGHT weight loss program for them? The first step in any successful weight loss management is and will always be an exercise program which may include weight strength training.  Nothing is a substitute for getting up and getting moving.  <br/><br/>Check with your doctor, make sure you have no health problems that would prevent you from getting physical, and get to it! Jumping rope, jogging, even brisk walking will start the calories burning and get your program off to a great start.  In addition, make sure to add some resistance training to your regimen.  For those less experience out there, this means weight lifting.  Don&#8217;t groan, I know what you&#8217;re thinking, but here are the facts.  <br/><br/>Muscle burns fat.  The more muscle you have, the more fat you will burn.  Even while you are sitting down watching TV, your muscles will be burning fat.  Now, don&#8217;t think that just because I am talking about lifting some weights you are going to turn into some bulky bodybuilder.  That just doesn&#8217;t happen.  Your physique will become toned, your muscles will start to show, and your clothes will fit better.  All the things you want to have happen.  Now, exercise alone may not be all you need.  <br/><br/>For some of us, quality weight losing programs are what we need in addition to our exercise routines, but back to the original question, how do we know which one to pick? When choosing a weight loss plan or product, the key thing to keep in mind is, &#8220;Is this something that I could do?&#8221; Be sure to learn all the parameters of the program or product and ask yourself this question.  Try to picture yourself following the guidelines and outlined and be realistic with yourself.  Is this something you will really stick to? Does the cost fit into your budget? Are there any special foods or supplements you will need to purchase? <br/><br/>Many people begin weight loss program with the best of intentions, but decide later on that they made the wrong choice.  Had they done a little more research beforehand, they likely would have had more success.  <br/><br/>How to lose weight is an issue for many people all over the world.  The health implications alone are certainly a reason to take some action, but it is the results we see as our bodies&#8217; change that really motivates us to continue and hopefully, eventually succeed.
