			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>A couple of weeks ago I’ve heard again the same old argument, “If weight loss programs would really work, then we would all look great.  But we don’t look all that great, so it means weight loss cures are a total waste of time and money!”</p>
<p>You’ve probably heard or thought about something similar too at some point in your life if you’ve ever tried any kind of weight loss program.  </p>
<p>I believe that quick weight loss cures don’t work because people fall too often pray to less-than-honest advertising campaigns, spend money on “miracle products” and get no results whatsoever.  </p>
<p>So what would really work? </p>
<p>Is there any such a thing as a miracle quick weight loss cure or miracle pill? The short and long answer is, of course, “No!”</p>
<p>Weight loss cures and programs would be benefited if the accent would be shifted not so much on losing weight as on improving the general health of the individual.  Furthermore, many specialists report that change in general lifestyle cannot be accomplished effectively unless it involves the whole family of the individual in facing weight issues. </p>
<p>What can one do to improve his or her health, well being and self image?</p>
<p>Procrastination is the number one challenge you will have to face if you want to make durable changes in your life.  I mean what can happen if you don’t take your 30-minute walk today? Nothing, really. </p>
<p>There’ll be time that you will skip your walk more and more often and then your gym classes because it will be harder for you to do a full body workout when you’ve done no exercise at all during the week.  By the way, 2 hours once a week is not that effective anyway. </p>
<p>And then there are all the small treats you just can’t say no to.  And does it really make such a great difference if you’ll eat a little chocolate today, or a double cheeseburger? </p>
<p>When I needed to find a weight loss cure that really works I’ve tried a lot of things.  I’m not saying they are all waste of time, but I didn’t like neither one of them.  There are friends of mine who swear by Atkins or Hoodia or who knows what else, but I’ve never had any success with any of the well known weight loss programs.  </p>
<p>And I am not the type that goes to the gym either.  I simply hate to sweat at the gym.  I am doing all the chores that needs to be done around the house, I love gardening and I spend a lot of time playing with my dogs, but I just cannot make myself get up and going to the gym.  </p>
<p>Plus I love to cook and I love to eat.  </p>
<p>Sounds hopeless, isn’t it? </p>
<p>Well, it would be hopeless if I would be into quick weight loss, but I am not.  </p>
<p>I’ve set myself a simple goal: I have to lose 1 (one) pound per month.  It would have taken me 3 years to reach a healthy weight.  It sounds like an eternity and it may well be so for people who expect miracles. </p>
<p>But look at it my way – I didn’t have to make major adjustments in my lifestyle right from day one.  All I did was to eat a little less fries than usual and some more veggies.  And then I’ve started to drink less sweet carbonated drinks.  </p>
<p>It took me more than a year to give up fries and cola, but I’ve done it and I was so proud of myself.  I still don’t go to the gym, but I do walk for 30 minutes four times a week and I do try not to use the elevator at work.  </p>
<p>And so, with minor adjustments over a long period of time I’ve come to achieve my goal and I haven’t gained any weight back! <br/><br/></p>

<p>The fact is that weight gain did not happen overnight, and neither will effective weight loss.  Weight loss programs such as eating nothing but protein, cutting out white flour and sweets can produce dramatic results in a fairly short time â but can have serious health consequences in the long term. </p>
<p>A âtraditionalâ weight loss program that involves simply cutting back on food intake can be counterproductive as well.  This has to do with the nature of fat build-up in the first place.  Our earliest direct ancestors evolved on the hot, dry savannahs of eastern Africa â a place where food supplies were far from certain.  In times of famine, the bodily metabolism slowed down in order to conserve energy; it was during these times that the bodies of these early hominids would survive on fat stored during times of plenty. </p>
<p>Although society, technology and culture have changed greatly in the past 6-7 million years, biology has not; when you deny yourself food, your body perceives it as a famine, whether you are in the lush agricultural regions of California or the dry plains of Kenya.  Therefore, the metabolism slows down, and those extra pounds refuse to come off, preventing quick weight loss. </p>
<p>Recent research indicates a strong connection between the use of âhigh-fructose corn syrup,â a largely artificial sweetener added to nearly everything from cola drinks to commercial breakfast âcerealsâ and snack foods, and the current epidemic of obesity. You will agree with me that the population has quickly realized the extent to which obesity has become a serious health problem that needs immediate attention.  The sad reality of the situation is the fact that it is not getting any better.  More and more children and young adults are becoming over weight at an early age now than it was ten year ago.  This scenario is accelerated by the fact that majority of the affected population give up the battle against weight control and give in to obesity. </p>
<p>I get asked almost everyday by different people who are looking for ways to loss weight for an effective weight loss method.  I am sure this question sounds familiar to most people in our society today – or at least most of us can relate to it in one way or the other.  I wish there was one simple and clear answer to this question, but the reality is there isn’t.  This does not mean there are no solutions to over weight problem.  To better understand the effectiveness of weight loss method, we need to consider the following facts: </p>
<p>Overweight is long term: It is a fact that weight does not built up over night, it takes months if not years.  The rate at which people gain extra weight however varies with individuals based on different factors that include, but not limited to: metabolism, physical activities, calories consumed, genes and lifestyle among others.  Among these factors, food is the chief source of extra body weight gain.  Considering that an average adult requires an average of 2000 calories daily, majority of the people go beyond.  The body only utilizes what it needs for energy production to sustain the body systems and the surplus is converted to fats and stored mainly around the belly area.  The only way to get rid of this fat would be through work.  Whatever method of weight loss you choose should be one that enables you to burn more calories than you consume.  It is also important to remember that a healthy weight loss is a slow process that demands some sacrifices.  </p>
<p>The rate of losing weight is relative to individual’s body weight: When all factors are kept constant, the rate at which an individual losses weight depend the individual’s extra body weight.  An individual with a larger extra body weight tends to loss more than an individual with a smaller extra weight.  For instance, when a group of overweight individuals are put through a similar training program for some weeks, it is possible to witness as high as a 50 pound weight loss from one and as low as 2 pounds from another.  This picture often misleads many people especially when the extra or targeted weight is not given.  It is therefore more meaningful to calculate the percentage of an individual’s weight loss relative to the overall extra body weight.  Losing more weight doesn’t not always imply that an individual is better than the one who loses less.    </p>
<p>Achieving a healthy body weight does not always mean losing weight.  Most weight loss methods, for example recreational sports, facilitate muscle growth in the place of fat.  This means that even though you are burning fat by going to the gym, running or jogging, the scale may still be reading the same weight or in some cases even more.  In this situation, physical fitness rather than the scale reading should be used to judge one’s health status.  Remember muscle weigh more than fat.  Strive for a healthy status rather than a mere drop in pounds. </p>
<p>Sustainable body weight is achieved through gradual healthy weight loss methods: It is only natural for humans to want to loss all the extra weight as quickly as possible and forget about it.  There are consequently hundreds if not thousands of weight loss pills readily available everywhere for this quick fix.  The troubles with most of them are the site effects.  Contrary to quick fix, weight loss must be both achievable and sustainable.  Sustainable healthy weight require work and patience, there is no short cut! </p>
